The Story of Otto

Otto was inspired by a beautiful idea that began in Denmark in 2013. There, volunteers started crocheting small octopuses for premature babies in hospitals. The story and associated benefits of these comforting little companions touched hearts around the world, and Otto was created in that same spirit- to bring warmth, comfort, and a touch of joy wherever he goes.

The Benefits

  • The curly tentacles mimic the feel of the umbilical cord, giving babies something familiar to grasp and helping them feel safer.
  • For babies in the NICU, holding onto the toy’s tentacles, they are less likely to pull on their tubes, IVs, feeding lines or monitors.
  • Reports suggest improved physiological outcomes: more regular heartbeats, better breathing patterns and higher oxygen saturation in some babies using the toy.
  • The tactile, soft design provides sensory comfort and emotional support during a stressful NICU stay.
  • The small size and tentacles also encourage grasping and motor-skills development in tiny hands.
